"I believe in sin. How could I not?" ...

In honor of Emory's award-winning (and subtitled) student short film, The Gerstein Report, this entire blog post will be written in German. Thanks Google Language Tools!

For those of you who don't speak German, check out the subtitles in the comments section.

  1. Here is the blog post, subtitled in English ...

The Gerstein Report runs just five minutes, but you remember it long after that. Based on the true story of a conflicted German SS officer who is horrified when he learns how his scientific work is used to murder the innocent, The Gerstein Report, which won "Best Drama" at the 2010 Campus MovieFest (CMF) International Grand Finale competition, is a brilliant example of tight storytelling and inventive and emotional filmmaking.

At its center is the performance of rising senior Ari Blinder 11C as Gerstein. He goes from bewildered to horrified to defiant to mournful in mere seconds. He's mesmerizing.

From the foreboding music to the steel-gray skies and even grayer walls and interiors, The Gerstein Report turns moodiness into an art form. Co-directors Matt Fennell and Matt Ryckman 11B have a lot to be proud of. At the very least, they have shown themselves to be remarkably versatile.

The film is a huge departure from the duo's CMF-winning, black-comic gore-fest from 2009, When Even Death Forgot About Carl Swenson. It's hard to believe the two movies were shot by the same guys.

I could go on and on about the film, but perhaps it's best if you just watch it yourself. The direct link is below.

The Emory Wheel's story about the movie is excellent and highly informative. Read it after you watch, though, there are spoilers.
